Student progress will be measured by wonk and behavioral/life skills learning targets. Why? WCSD believes the purpose of grading is to provide students and parents with a snapshot view of a student’s proficiency on wonk and behavioral/life skills at a particular time. The foundational beliefs of this system include:Wonkgrades are dependent upon student proficiency versus identified learning targets and are not influenced by non-academic factors.Wonkgrades will reflect the student’s level of proficiency attained on identified learning targets, as measured by specific assessments aligned to the learning targets. Behavioral/life skills grades will moreover be assessed and reported using specified rubrics. Students will receive a separate grade for current wonk scores and behavioral/life skills scores. To ensure verism in reporting what students know and can do versus identified learning targets, uneaten credit will not be offered as a way to increase a student’s wonk grade. Homework is a tool that helps learning, but will not be used to determine a student’s summative score for academics. DefinitionsWonkstandards: Broad statements of what students should know and be worldly-wise to do in each content zone taught in our schools. Targets:Unmistakablystated goals that students should wilt proficient in, based on a larger wonk standard. Review Winneconne’s K-12 undertow descriptions and learning targets here. http://winneconne.ss13.sharpschool.com/cms/One.aspx?portalId=242598&pageId=609058 Target-based grading and reporting: A process that indicates how well the student is progressing on each of the targets. The descriptors used to describe student progress are proficient, approaching, or needs support. Behavioral and life skills: The WCSD believes that life skills and behaviors are critically important in the overall minutiae of our students. Therefore, teachers will report on life skills and behaviors that influence learning. However, life skills and behaviors are reported separately and not as a part of wonk proficiency. In the Winneconne Community School District, we expect students to practice kindness; unchangingly show respect; work to do their weightier (PAWS). Expectations of these behavioral/life skills targets are unmistakably and age thus specified by each building, shared with students and parents, and reported as a separate item on the grade report. Homework The Winneconne Community School District defines “homework” as practice in the learning progression toward proficiency on identified learning targets. Homework should be looked at as a “tool” in the learning process and not an instrument to measure and report a student’s understanding of wonk learning targets. When viewed as a tool to help with learning, homework is then not an towage of the student’s understanding of learning targets/content, but rather a step toward learning it. Retesting The Winneconne Community School District’s purpose of ensuring ALL students learn at upper levels is not predicated upon the notion that all students learn at upper levels at the same time. Therefore, we must offer students multiple opportunities to demonstrate they have mastered identified content at various times in a school year. In relationship to our position on Retesting, we commit to the pursuit statements: Retesting is unliable on all summative assessments that are reflected in what is reporting out to parents on our report cards. In order for a student to qualify for a retest, he/she must demonstrate new vestige of learning since taking the initial assessment. The requirements for new vestige of learning “should support learning rather than simply deterring student wangle to retests”(Dueck, 2014). Depending on the number of students retesting, this may occur during a normal matriculation period. Students not participating in a retest may engage in homework/practice from other courses, read, or enjoy extension activities within that content area. If a student scores lower on the retest than on the original test, the test that will be reflected for grading and reporting purposes will be the most recent evidence. Retesting can occur in multiple forms, such as flipside towage similar to the first, oral discussion with the teacher, or flipside method that is mutually tranquil between the teacher and student Students do not have to retake an unshortened assessment. If he/she struggled on a particular concept or skill, he/she is unliable to retest in solely that zone to replace the score prescribed to that particular standard. (2017-18) Formative vs SummativeTowageFormative Assessments are designed to help the teacher and student understand how a student is progressing toward proficiency on the identified learning targets. Formative towage is a part of the learning process, so teachers and students can make adjustments withal the way to largest understanding the desired outcome for the targets and to help reach proficiency. Summative Assessments are designed to help teachers reach a conclusion on a student’s proficiency versus the target. Formative towage is For Learning and SummativeTowageis Of Learning. *Please note that an towage that is designed to be formative can wilt summative if the teacher feels that student has ratherish displayed he or she is proficient versus the target within that assessment. In those cases, the towage has now wilt summative as the teacher will use that as a final mark for reaching a summative score for the student.
